PennDOT will be converting the intersection of Leitersburg Street and South Washington Street to a four-way stop on Tuesday, August 25th.
This change follows a PennDOT traffic engineering study requested by the Borough to address ongoing public safety concerns at the intersection, including frequent congestion and an increase in accidents. Based on the results of the study, PennDOT determined that a multi-way stop is warranted.
PennDOT will be installing new STOP and STOP AHEAD signage. Temporary flashing beacons will also be installed to help motorists adjust to the new traffic control.
Once the new traffic control is in place, all approaches to the intersection will be required to stop.
Please use extra caution when traveling through the area, particularly during the first several weeks after installation, as motorists become accustomed to the new traffic pattern.
