To comply with the Environmental Protection Agency's Lead and Copper Rule Revisions, the Greencastle Area, Franklin County Water Authority was required to inventory all water service lines, including identifying those made from lead or galvanized material requiring replacement. This information has been submitted to DEP and is linked below.
As a secondary requirement of the Lead & Copper Rule, the Greencastle Area, Franklin County Water Authority, mailed letters to customers with service line material of lead, galvanized, or unknown dated November 8, 2024.
To review the overall timeframe for necessary replacements, approved contractors, and financing options to perform any necessary replacements; this information has not yet been determined as the Authority has a 10 years window to ensure the completion of any identified replacements and confirm no lead material is present within its system.
The Authority remains committed to confirming the status of any service lines listed as "unknown," in order to ensure the safety of its water distribution system. At this time, the Authority’s focus and priority is to identify all service line materials and to investigate the presence of galvanized steel or lead service lines at each location within the Authority’s service area. Once all service line materials are confirmed and any necessary replacements identified, the Authority will provide more information regarding an established timeline or if a service line replacement project is planned.
Customers are more than welcome to proactively replace water service lines. If you are planning a replacement, the Authority would highly recommending a plastic service line material and customer are welcome to use any licensed plumber to complete the replacement. If you are considering replacing your service line, please email office@greencastlepa.gov to make the Authority aware and the records will be updated accordingly.
