Greencastle 9/11 Weekend of Unity Events Scheduled
Special events have been scheduled in Greencastle to honor and remember the 20th Anniversary of September 11, Patriot Day.
On Saturday, September 11, Mayor Ben Thomas and members of the Rescue Hose Company will gather at 8:30 a.m. at the Fire Department for a walk from Eastern Avenue to Baltimore Street simulating the 110 floors (2,071 steps) of the World Trade Center where civilians, police and rescue workers climbed and descended that morning. The walk will continue west to Center Square, and then conclude at the Veterans Memorial on N. Washington Street where a moment of silence will be observed, followed by prayer.
Free Bluegrass concerts will be held at the Jerome King Bandshell at 2 and 6 p.m., featuring the D&S Bluegrass Band, to commemorate the September 11 attacks. Colors will be presented prior to each concert by the VFW and American Legion Joint Color Guard. The Nelson Pavilion will also be available. Participants are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.
